Goals and Objectives

To offer an overall experience that will help the participants move their program ideas toward tangible projects such as publishable papers, grant proposals, training programs, or treatment programs.

To provide educational and mentoring experiences to graduate students and doctoral level professionals at early career stages that will advance them in the development of tangible projects, thus furthering their careers in psychology.

To provide opportunities to network with federal officials, foundation officials, and leading ethnic minority psychologists from across the country at various levels.

  • Informally and formally interact with funding officials and ethnic minority psychologists
  • Understand the current vision and direction of funding agencies
  • Learn about federal and foundation funding opportunities

To facilitate the career development of participants through technical training, exposure to research and treatment models, and counsel from advanced ethnic minority mental health professionals.

  • Gain additional proficiency in writing grants
  • Become familiar with advanced research and evaluation methods, qualitative research, emerging issues, and innovative mental health and substance abuse treatment models
  • Receive career suggestions and advice from more established psychologists
  • Understand in more depth the research and treatment issues related to cultural competence, health disparities, ethics, and other issues in the field of psychology
  • Explore key issues in ethnic minority research and services via keynote addresses and networking experiences
