Associate Professor and HOD
Mr.C.KANNAN, is working as an Associate Professor and Head in the Department of Mechanical Engineering, Roever College of Engineering and Technology, Perambalur, Tamilnadu. He completed B.E., (Mechanical Engineering) at JJ College of Engineering and Technology, Tiruchirappalli in the year 2000. Then, he did M.E. (Manufacturing Engineering) in Jayaram College of Engineering and Technology, Tiruchirappalli the year 2011. His total teaching experience is 12 years.
To brief about his Achievements and Awards, he has published 02 papers in national journals, and 02 papers in International Conferences. He received funding from CSIR to conduct Workshop. He is a Coordinator for Entrepreneurship Development Cell, PMKVY and convener for National and International Conference. He is motivating the students to achieve university ranks and get placed in reputed industries, with continuous monitoring and counseling.

Overview

The Mechanical Engineering Department was started in the year 2009. The department has a team of highly qualified, devoted and motivated faculty and well equipped laboratories to conduct the UG Programme as tremendous standard. The Department has association with ISTE, SAE for the conduct of student career development programmes to expose their hidden technical skills. The Department continuously interacts with industries in order to incorporate the current trends.
It regularly organizes technical lectures, seminars, workshops, Conference to bridge the gaps between the syllabus and current practice. The students of the department are given additional soft skill and technical training on cutting edge technologies and placed in reputed industries. The students are motivated to participate in various inter-collegiate events and conferences to present their academic projects and developments. The department has signed MoU’s with various organizations to provide real time training to the students for making them industry ready professionals in their core field.

Prospects

Mechanical Engineering is a vast subject which is a stand-alone discipline supporting almost every other branch of Engineering. The aim is to impart knowledge in the core subjects of design, production and fluid power engineering with a solid foundation in mathematical techniques to make the graduate suitable for functions such as design, production, installation, maintenance and research & development. Students will have the opportunity to work in diverse fields like Production, Industrial Engineering, Design, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning. They also have the option to work in CAD/CAM fields, Computer Hardware and Software Development areas. A high percentage of students get admission to prestigious Universities abroad to pursue their MS Degree. Students who successfully graduate have tremendous scope in public sector and private sector organizations.
They are the driving force behind many of our technologies and industrial processes including innovative products like mobiles, PCs and DVD etc in our modern world. They share interests with Civil Engineers in structures and stress analysis; Electrical engineers in electronics, computing and control theory; Aeronautical Engineers in fluid flow and turbo machinery etc and also design tools needed by other engineers for their work. Continued research and development has led to better machines and processes helping the mankind.

STRENGTH OF MATERIALS AND FLUID MECHANICS AND MACHINERY LABORATORY
To study the mechanical properties of materials when subjected to different types of loading. To verify the principles studied in Fluid Mechanics theory by performing experiments in lab.

MANUFATURING TECHNOLOGY LAB I
To Study and practice the various operations that can be performed in lathe, shaper, drilling, milling machines etc. and to equip with the practical knowledge required in the core industries.

MANUFATURING TECHNOLOGY LAB II
To Study and acquire knowledge on various basic machining operations in special purpose machines and its applications in real life manufacture of components in the industry

CAD/CAM LAB
To gain practical experience in handling 2D drafting and 3D modelling software systems. To study the features of CNC Machine Tool. To expose students to modern control systems (Fanuc, Siemens etc.,) To know the application of various CNC machines like CNC lathe, CNC Vertical, Machining centre, CNC EDM and CNC wire-cut and studying of Rapid prototyping.

THERMAL ENGINEERING LAB
To study the valve timing diagram and performance of IC Engines To Study the characteristics of fuels/Lubricants used in IC Engines. To study the Performance of steam generator/ turbine. To study the heat transfer phenomena predict the relevant coefficient using implementation To study the performance of refrigeration cycle / components.

KINEMATICS AND DYNAMICS LABORATORY
To supplement the principles learnt in kinematics and Dynamics of Machinery. To understand how certain measuring devices are used for dynamic testing.

METROLOGY & MEASUREMENTS LAB
To familiar with different measurement equipments and use of this industry for quality inspection.

MECHATRONICS LAB
To know the method of programming the microprocessor and also the design, modeling & analysis of basic electrical, hydraulic & pneumatic Systems which enable the students to understand the concept of mechatronics.

ENGINEERING PRACTICES LAB
To provide exposure to the students with hands on experience on various basic engineering practices in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical and Electronics Engineering.
